Day 48: Geodude

Just past Bird Keeper Peter (you can see his stubby feet in this shot) is an item sitting tantalizingly out of reach due to a rock. I actually neglected getting Rock Smash from a guy near Violet City, so hopefully the cave up ahead won't require it. I'm almost to Azalea Town, after all.
Here's Union Cave. I don't remember much about it, other than the Pokemon around here getting excellent benefits.
A little west of the entrance, I get caught here.
It's been a while since I fought a wild Pokemon. Nelly's Astonish does a decent job of whittling away at Geodude, since ghost is one of the few types that rock/ground is neutral to. Still, the move's base damage is pathetic, so she uses up around half of it's available PP. I may switch to Rhianna for a while.

Day 47: Bird Keeper Peter

On this leg of our adventure, there's a randomly placed Pokecenter. I'm not complaining!
"For you right now, just $1,000,000!
You'll want this!”
Sorry, my Mom takes half my money. Also SlowpokeTail sounds digusting.
 comedy
I walk into the Pokecenter. Talking to the people here is surprisingly fruitful. The fisherman gives me the Old Rod, and the old man gives me a couple Lure Balls because I've been picking my fair share of apricorns (apparently). I also take the time to heal up.
South of the Pokecenter I get caught in the alert phase.
“It's from Violet City!
You beat Falkner?”
To start, I swap to Quilava as per tradition.
After one-shotting it with Ember, Nelly learns Astonish. I figure I'll try the move out and see if Nelly can finally stand up for herself.
...Unfortunately, it's a ghost move and Pidgey is half normal type.
I just let Quilava finish Pidgey and don't bother to switch for Spearow.
 What? Losing?

Day 46: Youngster Gordon

The fork in the road merges here. Kinda makes me wonder what is on the other side, but Youngster Gordon is one of those fidgety trainers. The kind who look around in all directions, as if to imply that you time it right, you can sneak past their line of sight.
 But they always catch you.
Standard switcharoo. Wooper of all Pokemon does end up dealing some damage to Quilava because of Water Gun. Wooper. Still, overleveling beats everything in Pokemon, so she wins in the end.

“one. So there must be many natures!”

Day 45: Fisherman Ralph

I switch out for Nelly. She has a goofy smile in this shot. If you squint and pretend her fangs are eyes, she looks like Meta Knight.
Everyone is so goddamn enthusiastic in these games!
The good ol' experience switcharoo. Nobody expects fire-mullet butch Quilava! I am a little worried though, since Goldeen could potentially deal some actual damage to her.
It wastes its chance on nonsense moves like these, and Quilava kills it without a scratch.
“I can teach you how to fish well, if
you'd like to exchange phone
numbers with me?"
Creepy old man I just met gets my number.
“younger friend!”
Ralph said, staring at young Stalin with a hunger in his eyes.

Day 44: Fisherman Justin

By the way, this is what Rhianna looks like outside of battle. Her animation looks like a little jig. It's amazing.
"You made me lose that fish!"

Rhianna slaughters them all, using up all of her Vine Whip PP (her only offensive move). I'll probably go back to Nelly and continue switching out to train her.
"The essence of fishing and Pokemon is the same."

Day 43: Fisherman Henry

Past the fork in the road is another fork in the road. South along the dirt path leads toward Azalea Town, east through that tall grass leads to a dock. Overhead is what I believe to be this game's bike path.
Suprisingly, I make it through that tall grass without a battle.
Two fisherman. I somehow get the hunch that they have water Pokemon, so I heal up Rhianna with a potion to get her ready for these battles.
I forgot to put Rhianna in front! Oh dear~
5 damage. I am the worst trainer.
 Unless it is Rhianna
