Day 108: Sudowoodo

“They say it dances when you water it...
Oh, that's a Plain Badge from
Goldenrod Gym!
Did you defeat Whitney?!
Well, then there's nothing to worry
about, is there?
I'll let you use this SquirtBottle for
a while then... Oh, never mind.
Keep it!”
After healing up from yesterday, I talk to this lady for the sprinkler I need to progress.
Now that I've beaten Whitney I have access to the Pokeathelon. As far as I am aware, it's HeartGold's answer to Gen 3's contests. As such, it's pretty unimportant and I probably won't cover it now or ever. Besides, that would mean more work for me and we can't have that.
The trip to the "tree" is entirely uneventful as I cleared out all the trainers earlier.
Sudowoodo goes first with a rather flaccid Low Kick. Rhianna's Vine Whip is much more powerful.
After a few more turns, Sudowoodo is down to precisely 2HP. It's a rare, almost-dead Pokemon so...
Somehow, Sudowoodo breaks free.
I use stun spore to increase my chances. It smartly responds with Flail, fainting Rhianna.
Confident in my chances, I bring Kyle out to keep attempting to catch it.
Thankfully a second go is all it takes.
She seems the sassy type. After the battle, a spectator appears.
“I want to give you this
for entertaining me!"
“With the Berry Pots, you can grow
any Berry from any region
with no worries!
That's right!
I'll give you some Berries, too.
Berry Pots won't do any good
without Berries.”
She gives me some Oran and Pecha berries. I'm going to be using this a lot in the future, so let me explain:
This works like the berries from the originals, but you don't farm loamy patches of soil on the map. Instead you just grow them in your pocket. Berries grow on a timer, different times for different berries. But the unique circumstances of my playthrough means that, compared to your average player, I will get a shitton of berries this way. For now I just plant the Oran and Pecha berries, but I'll get more potent berries in the future and I will exploit this for all it is worth. Especially the PP-restoring Leppa berries, since they will all but eliminate the need for PP items once I get enough.

Day 107: Gym Leader Whitney

I run the simulations, I crunch the numbers. I have a better chance of beating her than I usually get, so I enter the Gym's pastel maw once again...
I'll spare myself the full intro for this candied succubus. If anyone wants her full text, read the introspective look into human failure I posted a few weeks ago.
First up is Clefairy. Flame Wheel beats it within an inch of its life, something I could not have planned better...
Because Whitney wastes a Super Potion.
Quick Attack crits, so I choose Quick Attack again to finish her off next turn...
It ends her there. Clefairy gets a Doubleslap in at some point before she goes down, but no big deal.
M-Miltank...
Never again! This is what I trained for!
I open with a decently damaging Flame Wheel. Miltank responds with...
And this sets the stage for the next 5 minutes or so. Flame Wheel, Milk Drink undoes the damage. Flame Wheel, Milk Drink undoes the damage. Occasionally she gets a few Stomps in until I'm forced to heal up Diane.
 And then the cycle continues.
One time I manage to burn Miltank-
Oh, nevermind. But hey, Maybe if I use Flame Wheel?
Yes
 YES
 YES
 YES
<3
Whitney cries uncontrollaby, no matter how much I talk to her. I walk away...
“It's OK. She'll stop soon.
She always cries when she loses."
You do not understand, Cathy. I want her to cry forever.
“What? What do you want? A Badge?
Oh, right. I forgot.
Here's the Plain Badge.”
“of battle.
Oh, you can have this, too!
Obtained the TM45!
It's Attract!
It makes full use of a Pokemon's charm.
Isn't it just perfect for a cutie
like me?
That's right!
I heard that this thing called the
Pokeathlon Dome is now open right next
to the National Park.
You should go try it, since you're
so good at battling with your Pokemon!
Ah, that was a good cry!
Come for a visit again! Bye-bye!”
And so Whitney's deathgrip on my progress comes to an end. I can finally move on and train my other 'mons. It's a good feeling.

Day 106: Caterpie

Caterpie survives a Quick Attack, somehow. Another Quick Attack finishes it off, though. Riveting!

Day 105: Lass Krise

“Oh, a battle?”
 Oddish has a bad time.
It takes a few turns, but Cubone does, too.
Pretty sure this girl's an alien.
